AdBlue® is a protected trademark of the German Association of the Automotive Industry for a high-purity substance consisting of 32.5% urea solution and demineralised water in accordance with ISO 22241 for exhaust gas aftertreatment in diesel engines by means of selective catalytic reduction (SCR). Exhaust gas aftertreatment in this form enables a reduction of the emitted nitrous oxides (NOx) by up to 90%. Urea (CH4N2O) is produced on a large scale in the chemical industry from ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
